Experiential Training and Externship Opportunities
Eligible students may have the opportunity to participate in supervised experiential training or an externship at an approved healthcare site.
Experiential training allows students to apply classroom knowledge and clinical skills in a professional healthcare environment. Students may gain exposure to patient intake, vital signs, clinical documentation, infection control, office workflow, patient communication, and other responsibilities appropriate to the medical assistant role.
Placement at a specific healthcare organization or location is not guaranteed. Experiential opportunities are subject to:
Site availability
Student eligibility and academic standing
Successful completion of required coursework and competencies
Background-check and drug-screening requirements
Immunization, health, CPR, or safety requirements
Completion of all onboarding requirements
Approval by Rooted Health Institute and the participating training site
Specific requirements may vary by site and training partner.
Potential College Credit Opportunity
Students who successfully pass the NHA Certified Clinical Medical Assistant certification examination may be eligible for an American Council on Education college credit recommendation.
The NHA CCMA certification examination has received an ACE recommendation of five semester hours in the lower-division baccalaureate/associate-degree category.
Eligible students may receive an ACE transcript that can be submitted to a participating college or university for evaluation. ACE-recommended credit may potentially support continuing education, career development, or completion of a related academic program.
Students should contact the college or university they are considering to learn about its prior-learning and transfer-credit policies.
The evaluation, acceptance, application, and transferability of ACE-recommended credit are determined by the receiving college or university. College credit is not guaranteed, and Rooted Health Institute does not directly award college credit.

Cynesha Leavell McMurry, RN, is a licensed Registered Nurse with multi-state compact licensure who attended Western Kentucky University and brings extensive clinical and leadership experience.
